Full Tilt Poker Review

“Learn, Chat and Play with the Pros” has been the slogan at Poker since its inception, and Team Full Tilt currently includes Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan and Viktor Blom. Full Tilt is more than just famous faces, however, and the poker room distinguishes itself with a robust, customizable software platform and a lucrative promotional structure that is particularly favorable to loyal clients.

Update! – On November 6, 2012, Full Tilt Poker re-opened its doors under new management. Now owned and operated by PokerStars, the largest and most trusted online poker operator in the world, Full Tilt Poker has regained player trust and is the fastest growing poker site on the Internet!

Update! – As of April 15, 2011, also known as “Black Friday” in the online poker world, the US Department of Justice seized the FullTiltPoker.com domain name for providing services to US citizens. The domain was given back a few days later, but Full Tilt Poker no longer offers real money poker games to the USA – the birthplace of poker. There are still plenty of US poker sites that can offer real money poker games to US players.

Software

The Full Tilt Poker software is a desktop client that the user must download and install. The software downloads in less than a minute on a broadband connection, and it will install in seconds on a modern system. The desktop client requires Windows 7/Vista/XP, and there is no support for Mac or Linux. There is also no mobile app or Flash or Java-based Web client at this time.

There are many options for playing poker online. I tried out the Full Tilt Poker download and I really liked it. Here are some of my impressions.

The first thing I noticed was the graphics. Most poker sites have rather stilted, bland graphics, but the Full Tilt graphics are actually fun and cool. You can choose from a wide variety of cartoonish avatars, and from quite a few background options as well. My favorite background was the beach theme. It gave the whole experience a more relaxed vibe.

Full Tilt Poker probably has the widest variety of games, both in terms of game type and stakes. The games they offer are: Texas Holdem Omaha Hi/Lo Omaha Hi Stud Hi/Lo Stud Hi Razz

They also have a wide variety of mixed games, where the type of poker changes from hand to hand.

Their software allows you to easily sift through and sort all these variations to find the exact game you want, and the stakes start at $.01/$.02. I’ve never seen stakes that low, which I thought was really cool. You could get a lot of poker playing in by only risking a buck or two! They also have play money games in case you don’t want to risk any money at all.

The lobby is one of Full Tilt Poker’s defining features. It is a powerful, highly customizable system that offers three distinct views: basic, standard and mini. The basic view offers a guided process intended for new users. The standard view provides the full range of features and customization options, and the mini view is a streamlined version that lets that player have access to the lobby even when playing at a table or performing another task. The alarms and alerts are particularly useful in this mode.

Full Tilt also provides a knowledge base that is accessible from the website and from within the desktop client. The knowledge base is extensive and searchable, and it includes beginner, advanced, banking and technical tutorials. There are also video tutorials available for the desktop client and the banking platform.

When you are actually playing, Full Tilt Poker provides you with a bunch of options to make things easier for you. The four color deck option is a must, as it allows you to easily see flushes. Sometimes when I get tired my eyes will play tricks on me and I’ll mix up diamonds and hearts, so this feature was really useful to me. One thing I really liked is that the bet sizes and pot size is clearly marked, so you don’t have to guess at how many chips are in play. This is especially useful when calculating pot odds.

Poker Games

Like most online poker rooms, Full Tilt features Texas Holdem, but it also offers ring games and tournaments, including sit-and-goes, for a wide array of other poker formats: Draw, Omaha Hi/Lo, Omaha Hi, Razz, Stud Hi/Lo and Stud Hi. Draw poker encompasses the following variants: 5-Card Draw, 2-7 Single Draw, 2-7 Triple Draw, A-5 Triple Draw and Badugi. Full Title also hosts mixed games, including HORSE, HA and 10-game tables.

Game Types

In addition to standard poker play, Full Tilt offers special formats. Ante games ensure bigger pots by requiring an ante from each player each round. Speed tables put players on the clock. Rush Poker ensures nonstop action by moving the player to a new table as soon as their involvement in the current hand is over. Full Title also has shallow and deep-stack tables, which allow a player to dictate the kind of experience they’ll have by making a commitment to the other players at the table.

Tournaments

Full Tilt Poker has freerolls, sit-and-goes, daily tournaments and scheduled tournaments, including satellites that feed into high-profile live tournaments in Las Vegas and all over the world. In addition to standard play, tournament types include Rush, Cashout, Shootout, Knockout and Double Stack. Tournament features include rebuys, multiple entries, multiple chances, tickets, late registration and synchronized breaks. For sit-and-goes, Full Tilt offers Steps tournaments, which let you turn a small buy-in into a big payday, and Matrix play, which provides access to large prize pools.

Full Tilt Edge & Bonus

Full Tilt Poker provides a robust promotional structure that includes welcome packages, reload bonuses and daily opportunities. Edge is Full Tilt’s loyalty program, and it awards players with Full Tilt Points (FTPs) each time they pay a tournament fee or contribute to a rake in a ring games. By accumulating FTPs, a player is able to increase his or her VIP level, which gives them access to a wide range of perks. Players convert FTPs into bonus cash or spend them for merchandise at the Diamond Edge store.

New players can take part of the Welcome Package which awards free tournament entries and a $600 deposit bonus.
